Biography
Having extensive courtroom and trial experience, Charlie is a capable and respected litigator. In the criminal arena, he has handled hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases, representing individuals accused of violating state and federal law. He has successfully tried cases before juries, obtaining not guilty verdicts in a range of criminal cases. His experience also includes the appellate process, where he represents those who have been convicted at trial. He has argued before the Georgia Supreme Court and written numerous appeals to both the Georgia Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals. He has lectured on appellate issues at GPDSC Appellate Division training seminars.
In addition to his criminal practice, Charlie currently serves as a Solicitor in both the Walton County Magistrate and Probate Courts where he prosecutes local ordinance and traffic violations.
As a civil litigator, Charlie has successfully represented multiple clients who have been injured and are in need of compensation. He has also helped many clients in a variety of civil matters, including probate, and business disputes. Charlie also serves as counsel for the City of Lexington, advising the City on a range of Municipal issues.
Charlie is admitted to practice law in all Georgia State and Superior Courts, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. He is an active member of The Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Charlie graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia with degrees in both History and English and a minor in French. He then attended Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law where he was awarded the Julius R. Lunsford academic scholarship in the study of law.
In the community, Charlie serves as the current Chair of the Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission and is Past President of the Board of Directors of the Altamaha Riverkeeper. He is also a graduate of LEAD Athens, a leadership program dedicated to building a vibrant community in Athens.
